17 May Travel to Japan for Tokyo 2020, just don’t forget your visa!
Japan is a fantastic destination to travel to at any time but the summer of 2020 will be an even more exciting year for Japan as it will be hosting the Olympic Games. Commonly referred to as Tokyo 2020 the international multi-sport event engages most of the world in sportsmanship and the incredible athletes taking part in the games are true champions. Tokyo 2020 will take place between the 24thof July and the 9thof August attracting thousands of people in the process. Adding a few new disciplines such as freestyle BMX to the games as well as bringing back some old favourites like baseball means that there is plenty to look forward to. That is why travellers should take this opportunity and head to Japan for the 2020 Olympic Games and experience the grand occasion for themselves. In the midst of preparing for this trip of a lifetime, there are certain things to remember though, such as not forgetting to apply for your Japan visa.
Current visa application process
Japan really need no introduction as it is one of the most sought after travel destinations in the world. Travellers are drawn to its almost magical shimmer, hinting to a past filled with emperors and blooming sakuras as far as the eye can see. However, Japan is also a modern city where especially the contemporary food scene attracts visitors from all over the world and pared with ancient traditions, Japan really is a unique destination. Before travellers are allowed to enter Japan they will, depending upon which nationality they belong to, need a visa. There are certain visa-exempt countries and at this given moment in time citizens of 68 countries are able to travel to Japan for business or tourism without having to apply for a visa.
They are then allowed to enter the country and stay for a period of up to 90 days. Citizens of certain countries are then also allowed to extend their stay for specific purposes for up to 6 months. As there are different visa rules depending upon your country of origin, it is best to read up on visa rules before deciding to plan your trip. Currently, in order to apply for and obtain a visa to enter Japan, one must visit a Japanese embassy or a consulate. This is however about to change.
Introducing the new e-visa application system
To increase the availability of Japan to foreign travellers, the government of Japan is planning to introduce an electronic visa application system by April 2020. By making the visa application process easier the hope is to attract even more visitors to this great destination. To test the new system and make sure that it is functioning by Tokyo 2020 it will be introduced to Chinese individuals traveling to Japan for tourist purposes as of May 2019. Designated travel agencies will assist with the e-visa application process and it will be exciting to see the results. Attending the Olympic Games have never been easier, book you trip and find out for yourself.
