Georgia Travel Guide
A Quick Intro to Georgia
Whenever I talk about Georgia I usually have to preface my stories with “the country, not the state!”
Sandwiched between Russia to the north and Turkey, Azerbeijan and Armenia to the south, Georgia lies at the intersection of Europe and Asia.
The country has an awe-inspiring landscape, with dramatic mountain peaks, picturesque wine-growing vineyards and Black Sea resorts where you can lay on the beach and soak up the sun.
It’s said that Georgia is the oldest wine-growing country in the world, and archeologists have found traces of wine production that date back to 8000 years BC. On your trip to Georgia you’ll have plenty of opportunities to sample Georgian wines and foods such as Khachapuri (cheese-filled bread) and Khinkali (dumplings stuffed with meat).
Most visitors start their trip in the capital of Tbilisi, which is known for its quaint old town with pastel colored buildings and cobblestone streets. I’d suggest spending 2 or 3 days in Tbilisi before exploring the rest of the country.
Highlights of Georgia include sampling wine in the province of Kakheti, trekking in the Caucasian mountains, visiting the iconic Trinity Church and relaxing on the beach in Batumi.
In this Georgia travel guide I’ll provide you with all the info you need to ensure you get the most out of your trip.
