Tips for First-Time Travelers to Dubai

I have visited Dubai countless times, and I clearly remember the first time my friends and I went there without knowing what to expect or where to go. It even came to a point where we got really frustrated and spent time searching for famous places and restaurants on Google. It literally took some time off from our initial plans to explore because we were so out of ideas. That’s why I am writing this today to give some valuable tips to first-time travelers to this wonderful city. Because who would want to go on a trip to a place where you have no idea where to start your journey?

So if you are one of those people who have never stepped foot in Dubai, this post is for you. Take some time to read; hopefully, this can help you create your travel itinerary.

When to Visit Dubai

Dubai has an arid desert climate, which means it’s really hot during the summer season. We wouldn’t recommend this season as the temperature can rise anytime and might cause health issues for some. So I strongly suggest that you travel during the winter season. It is not that cold, and the weather is bearable, making it the perfect time to explore and discover the different tourist spots.

How to Get a Dubai Visa

Each country has different requirements for getting a Dubai Visa, so it is essential that you check the official channels and authorized travel agencies for the specific guidelines for getting one from your country.

Also, there are several visa categories like tourism, business, and such; therefore, you should research which visa category would fit your travel purpose.

How to Travel Around Dubai

When it comes to exploring Dubai, navigating the city’s transportation system is a breeze. With a well-developed infrastructure, getting around Dubai has never been easier. From the efficient metro to the convenient buses, taxis, and ride-hailing services, there are plenty of options.

There is never a shortage of transportation while traveling around Dubai. Firstly, there’s the Dubai Metro. It is a modern railway system that is really comfortable to go from one place to another around the city. The interior and design make traveling such a pleasant experience. Aside from that, you travel quicker and save some time getting from point A to point B.

Next, you can ride the bus. Tourists and locals use it extensively to get around the city. The buses are fully air-conditioned, which makes them comfortable to ride. They also offer many schedules and routes, so if you plan to use this mode of transport, you can check out if there are routes going to your desired destination.

Lastly, Dubai has a lot of taxis and popular ride-pick-up services like Uber. For taxis, you can find them almost everywhere and anywhere, so whenever you need to transfer to a different spot, you can always hail one. Or book an Uber ride if you feel more comfortable using it instead of public taxis.

What to Eat in Dubai

If you want to satisfy your palate, Dubai offers a lot of food to try and taste. When I say a lot, I mean traditional Emirati dishes and international cuisine.

First up is shawarma. This has to be one of my favorites, and it is a popular street food eaten by locals and tourists alike. Each wrap contains marinated meat wrapped in pita, with fresh vegetables, and a savory sauce.

Next is the falafel. I love this so much, and I’m saying this from a non-vegetarian perspective. It is a crispy ball made from chickpeas; it’s mixed with herbs and spices and served in tahini sauce. You can also eat this with pita bread and vegetables. Every bite bursts with flavor and is very satisfying to munch on.

Dubai is never short of culinary experiences, and one way to fully enjoy your gastronomic journey is to try Mezze. It is a traditional Arabic way of eating where small plates are served with hummus, kebabs, tabbouleh, and the like. It is presented before the main course, allowing diners to enjoy different flavors that people from Dubai eat everyday.

If you miss food from home, then you can always find spots that offer international food. If you crave pizza, burgers, sushi, pasta, and everything else, you can find them in street food markets or proper restaurants that serve them.

Famous Festivals and Attractions in Dubai

Since we’re talking about food, there’s this food celebration that locals and tourists like to participate in:the Dubai Food Festival. During the culinary fiesta, you’ll get to taste famous street food or fine dining food. It also features food contests and cooking demos, plus you’ll get a chance to catch some celebrity chefs, too!

Once you’ve satisfied your palate, you can explore the famous Dubai attractions.

On top of the list is The Palm Jumeirah. This artificial island that looks like a palm tree if seen from a bird’s-eye view is actually said to be a symbol of Dubai’s dreams. Within the archipelago are different luxury resorts, world-class restaurants, and views of the beach that make you want to bask in the sun.

Next is the Dubai Mall. It is a haven for those who love to shop and those who are simply looking to entertain themselves. The mall houses 1,300 retail stores. From high-end fashion brands to glitzy and unique shops, you can find them all in Dubai Mall. But it’s not just about shopping; it also hosts an indoor theme park, an underwater zoo, and an aquarium. So families can enjoy some time there, too.

Visiting the Burj Khalifa

One attraction that should not be missed when visiting Dubai is the iconic Burj Khalifa. This extraordinary architectural marvel stands tall as the world’s tallest building, reaching heights that seem to touch the sky.

Going to the world-famous Burj Khalifa is something you shouldn’t miss. The grand structure is known to be the world’s tallest building, making you feel like you’re in heaven once you’re up on the highest floors.

I advise you to get tickets in advance to avoid the long lines, saving you time and get you to experience the Burj without any hassles. Plus, I highly recommend going there before sunset, so you’ll be there when the sun descends, and let me tell you, it’s undoubtedly a breathtaking view. One that you must experience in your lifetime!

Explore Architectural Marvels and Historical Places

Dubai is famous for its juxtaposition of architectural wonders – a unique glimpse of contemporary facades, while preserving their natural heritage with their traditional structures. Like the Al Fahidi which boasts of traditional buildings that gives you a closer look into their ancestry.

There’s also the Jumeirah Mosque, which shows the superb craftsmanship that is reminiscent of the grand Islamic architecture. It also symbolizes Dubai’s religious essence.

Lastly, you can visit the innovative and modern Dubai Frame. It rises high into the sky, which gives tourists a panoramic view of the city.

Unique Things to Do in Dubai

Desert Safari Dubai

You’ve probably seen tourists having fun on the sand dunes while riding buggies. You can experience that and more at the Desert Safari Dubai and spend some time on the golden sand.

Skydiving in Dubai

While this is best for adrenaline junkies, you can actually give it a try if you’re not afraid of heights. Once you do the skydive, you can be one with the blue skies while getting a bird’s-eye view of the Palm Jumeirah and the Burj Khalifa.

A Hot Air Balloon Ride

As you gently float above the landscape, you’ll witness Dubai’s majestic beauty from a unique perspective. The magnificent sunrise or the vibrant sunset views from the balloon will leave you in awe as you glide effortlessly through the sky. It’s an experience that will create lifelong memories and offer an enchanting view of Dubai that few can witness.

Float above Dubai during the sunrise or sunset aboard a hot air balloon. This once–in-a-lifetime experience allows you to look at Dubai’s grandiose beauty. Make sure to bring your camera with you;you’ll see truly astounding views from up there.
