Cruise ship in St. Thomas

MSC Splendida Cruises

MSC Splendida is a 3,274-passenger ship built at STX Europe’s St Nazaire shipyard. It was the second largest cruise ship ordered by a European-owned company at the time of its launch in July 2009.

Its name reflects the elegance and beauty of the Italian city of Milan where MSC’s headquarters are located. Splendida combines modern, high-style contemporary design with classic cruise ship elegance.

She has a wide range of amenities to meet every taste and budget. From the refined Top 18 adults-only solarium to the splash-packed fun of the L’Equatore kids aqua park and Vertigo, the longest single-rider water slide at sea. You’ll also find exclusive innovations like the Galaxy restaurant with its open-kitchen layout and the Asian L’Olivo restaurant with its spectacular ambiance.

Guests will love the luxurious MSC Aurea Spa with its Balinese massages, thalassotherapy, state-of-the-art beauty treatments and Turkish baths. Or simply relax in one of the many lounges and bars around the ship including a jazz bar, a cigar bar and a wine bar.

For families, MSC Splendida offers a variety of kid and teen areas as well as four pools. It also has a thrilling 4-D cinema and Formula 1 racing car simulator.

MSC is doing a great job of attracting younger people to cruises and this was evident on our sailing. There were plenty of families and couples in their 30s. This is certainly good news for MSC and a welcome change from the perception that all cruises are for pensioners.

As with all MSC ships the cabins are well-appointed and comfortable. 80% of the cabins have balconies which add to the cruise experience. The main and buffet restaurants on MSC Splendida are free and provide a wide choice of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

There are also two a la carte restaurants, the Galaxy and the L’Olivo, and the MSC Yacht Club which is an additional cost. These restaurants have a more intimate atmosphere and the service is excellent. In addition, the MSC Yacht Club includes a 24-hour butler service and the private Top 18 sundeck with its pool, lounge and bar.

The ship has six dining options including a buffet restaurant and several specialty restaurants serving Italian and Chinese cuisine. In the evening, you can enjoy a world-class show at the Strand Theatre or try your luck at the Royal Palm He Casino or dancing at Club 33. The ship has 4 swimming pools, a jogging track and squash courts.
