Hotel Review: Amari Watergate Bangkok

Bangkok is known for its luxury hotels and rooftop bars, but the Executive Floors of the Amari Watergate Hotel take the red carpet treatment to the next level.

After 3 weeks traveling through Vietnam, Laos and Northern Thailand, I found myself in Bangkok for one night before catching a flight to Myanmar. I was craving a bit of pampering, and that’s exactly what I got at the Amari Watergate Bangkok!

I had the pleasure of staying in one of the Executive Rooms at the Amari Watergate, which are located on the top four floors of the hotel. This was without a doubt my best hotel experience to date. Perks of staying on the Executive Floors include your own private check-in/check-out experience, 24-hour butler service and exclusive access to the Executive Lounge, where you can enjoy complimentary pre-dinner cocktails with panoramic views of the Bangkok cityscape!

The Location

The Amari Watergate hotel is located at 847 Petchburi Road, in the heart of Bangkok’s main business district. If you take a short walk outside of the hotel, you’ll find a number of shopping malls including Central World, Gaysorn Plaza and Siam Paragon, plus the fashion markets of Pratunam.

The hotel is in an ideal location for easy access to both BKK and DMK international airports. I took advantage of the airport shuttle to take me to Don Muang Airport for my flight to Burma, which took about 25 minutes.

The Executive Floors

The top four executive floors have a private reception area, meaning you can make arrangements and check in/check out without having to wait in line at the main reception downstairs. As a guest staying on the executive floors, I also had access to the private Executive Lounge, where I was able to enjoy a complimentary breakfast buffet and a selection of juices, teas and coffees throughout the day.

The Executive Lounge was literally right outside my room so I didn’t have to walk very far for breakfast in the morning! It was nice to be able to dine in a more intimate setting without waiting in line with hundreds of other hotel guests.

The Views

The terrace of the Executive Lounge provides incredible night time views of the city. Between 5-7pm  I was able to enjoy complimentary pre-dinner drinks and canapés whilst looking out over the bright lights of Bangkok. I tucked into delicious snacks such as ribs, olives, meats cheeses, and crispy lettuce with a caesar dressing. I know there are a number of rooftop bars in Bangkok, but this was like having my own private terrace overlooking the capital!

The Room

The Executive Rooms at the Amari Watergate measure approximately 40 square metres, and are equipped with broadband Internet, a 40″ LCD TV and a DVD Player. DVDs are available for free rental upon request although I didn’t get around to watching a movie (mainly because I was too busy taking advantage of the super fast Internet!).

When I checked-in at 6am in the morning, I was so tired that I jumped straight into this comfy bed. It was definitely the best sleep I had had in a while!

The Bathroom

The marble bathroom was equipped with a large bathtub and overhead shower, as well as a separate shower cubicle. I also loved the sliding window above the tub so you can see into the bedroom and talk to your companion while taking a bath!

The Pool

After 3 weeks of sightseeing around Southeast Asia, I was looking forward to some relaxation time. When you’re in the urban jungle and nowhere near a beach, it’s nice to be able to get some sun and lounge by a swimming pool. The Amari Watergate has a beautiful landscaped garden and outdoor swimming pool, with views over the skyscrapers of Bangkok.

The Extras

With every hotel stay it’s all about the little extras! I loved this little selection of snacks that were delivered to my room in the afternoon! Smoked salmon and mini pitta, an apple, and a selection of sweet treats!
