Whether you stay in a property for one night or several months, you will want to feel comfortable. However, it may not be appropriate for you to make major decorative changes to the place you’re staying in when travelling. Therefore, for the most part, you may have to put up with your host’s design choices. However, there might be some easy ways that you can change the look of your room, and even not require much space in your suitcase to do so. This could be especially useful for those who like to have a piece of home with them on their adventures.
Instant lighting
You may have no control over the colour of the walls in your room, or the brightness of the main lights. By using some flexible led strip lights, you can create additional light, and imbue the place with a sense of colour. These could then be rolled up and kept in your suitcase when not wanted or needed. While you could use pins to keep them in place at home, you may instead want to consider some ways of attaching them to furnishings or skirting that don’t leave marks, holes, or residue behind when you leave. Adjusting the lighting colours and levels of your LED strip lights to meet your needs could allow you to get a better night’s sleep in a strange place.
Add some life to the place
Some people may opt to rent a room for the duration of their stay, while others may prefer having an entire property to themselves. Regardless of which you plan on choosing, you may be able to have some flowers present while you’re there. Certain hosts may already have plants dotted about, which can make it feel more homely. If not, you may want to think about displaying some cut flowers that make you feel happy for the duration of your stay. If you can’t find a vase, you may be able to use a glass to keep your flowers as healthy as possible. On your day of departure, it can be a good idea to dispose of the flowers properly, and ensure that the glass or vase has been cleaned.
Pack a blanket
Smells and different touch sensations could also make you feel uneasy, especially if you’ve never visited a place before. Taking the same blanket with you from place to place, and using it to decorate your bed, could allow you to retain a sense of normalcy. Although the blanket may need washing at times, you may then come to recognise the scent of your favourite washing powder or even your perfume on it which can put your mind at ease. In addition to this, it may be nice to snuggle down with when you go to bed.
Spending a lot of time travelling can be fun. You may find that you enjoy your accommodation more when it matches your tastes a bit better. Finding easy, temporary ways of doing so can help you to feel happier where you’re staying.
