I’ve been using electric toothbrushes for years now, both sonicare and oral-b models, and I really notice the difference compared to manual toothbrushes.

No matter how aggressively I brush with a manual brush, my teeth just never seem to feel that clean and sometimes they even give me mouth ulcers if they’re too firm. Electric toothbrushes, on the other hand, make my teeth feel silky smooth.

Unfortunately it’s always been kind of annoying to travel with an electric toothbrush because I’ve found them to be heavy and cumbersome, plus I have to pack the charging dock in my bag too, which takes up more space. Hotels often provide complimentary manual toothbrushes as part of their bathroom amenities, so up until now I’d just been making do with those.

I really do prefer an electric toothbrush though, which is why I’m excited to share with you my latest discovery, the FOREO ISSA 2, which in my opinion is the best electric toothbrush for travel.

Read on for my Foreo Issa 2 review…

FOREO ISSA 2: The Design

I don’t know about you but I’ve always thought that electric toothbrush manufacturers could definitely make their toothbrushes a little bit nicer, especially since they’re on display in the bathroom all the time. After a couple of years of use my Sonicare toothbrush was looking really kind of gross, with toothpaste collecting in all the gaps and grooves.

Well, FOREO have really done well with the design of the FOREO Issa 2. It has to be the sexiest toothbrush on the market today. If Apple designed toothbrushes, I imagine this is what it might look like.

Looks great in the bathroom…

What I immediately noticed about this electric toothbrush is that it’s incredibly light to hold and much smaller and less bulky than the brands I’ve tried in the past. The design of is incredibly sleek and ergonomic, with no gaps, grooves and cracks for toothpaste to get stuck into. Plus, the mint color is just gorgeous and looks great in the bathroom. (There are other colours available too though, should you wish to choose a different colour).

Personally I prefer to brush my teeth over the sink, but if you’re one of those people who brushes your teeth in the bath or shower, you’ll be pleased to know the FOREO ISSA 2 is also waterproof.

Silicone and PBT polymer are ultra-hygienic

The toothbrush head boasts two kinds of bristles. Durable and ultra-hygienic PBT polymer bristles are ideal for heavier plaque buildup, while silicone bristles remain gentle on gums. Silicone and PBT polymer are also ultra-hygienic, harboring less bacteria than the materials used in ordinary brush heads. Each brush head lasts for 6 months and costs $19.95 to replace.

Using sonic technology, the Hybrid bristles channel 11,000 high-intensity pulsations per minute to create micro-sweeps that effectively and gently clean the teeth and gums.

Using the Foreo Issa 2

The toothbrush has 16 intensity settings!

The FOREO ISSA 2 feels great to hold. It operates like a normal electric toothbrush; squeeze some toothpaste on the head, brush for two minutes with circular movements, then rinse your mouth out with water.

There are 16 intensity settings, so all you have to do is power it on and then use the plus or minus buttons to alter the intensity.

At 30 second intervals the toothbrush gives a short pulse to indicate it’s time to change quadrant in the mouth. After 2 minutes, the toothbrush pulses 3 times to tell you that your time is up. It stays on up to 3 minutes; after this point it will power off.

The in-built timer ensures you brush your teeth effectively.

The flexible toothbrush head is quite a bit larger than the ones I’ve used in the past, so it did take a little bit of getting used to, especially when trying to brush my back teeth. I also found that when I grip the handle I will often accidentally press the “minus” button which brings the speed intensity down. So be careful not to grip it too tight when you’re brushing.

In general though I found it to cleans my teeth well and leaves them feeling smooth.

Perhaps the most exciting feature of all though about the FOREO ISSA 2 though is its charging capabilities. Instead of a bulky charging dock, this electric toothbrush comes with a USB cable so you can plug it into your computer or your phone’s wall charger and easily charge it anywhere on the road….

…except you may not even need to charge it at all because just one hour of charging will charge up the toothbrush for 365 days! Yes you can go an entire year without charging this bad boy up! How amazing is that?

I would like the USB cable to be a little bit longer because it wouldn’t reach some wall sockets…but if you’re charging with a computer it wouldn’t be an issue.

The toothbrush also comes with a slim white leather case, so you can easily keep it protected and clean without carrying around a bulky case.

The Verdict

What I love the most about the FOREO ISSA 2 is that I can go 365 days without having to charge it, which means I don’t have to worry about it switching off on me or carrying chargers around when I’m traveling. I can easily fit this into my wash bag and have super clean, healthy teeth on the road. From now on this travel friendly toothbrush will definitely go everywhere with me!

Love the sleek design and fun colours.

The FOREO ISSA 2 comes in four different colours, including Cool Black, Cobalt Blue, Mint and Pearl Pink. You can buy the toothbrush online here:

Best of all, the toothbrush has a 10 year quality guarantee and 2 year warranty just in case anything goes wrong with it. Brush heads last 6 months and cost $19.95 to replace.

On a side note, for all my other readers, who are probably travelling to/from London – this cool brand has recently opened a Pop up at Heathrow T-4 (Departure), check it out, and do get yourself something – as most of the products are travel friendly, and can easily fit in your hand luggage. You won’t regret your purchase.
