Recently I flew to Zurich in Switzerland with my best friend Elle for a luxury holiday at The Chedi in the Swiss Alps. These days I’m living in London and taking short weekend trips, so this was a nice girly weekend in the snow. We flew SWISS International Air Lines – Economy on the way there and Business on the way back.
The Swiss tend to be known for their watches and obsession with punctuality, so it wasn’t surprising that my flights with SWISS were incredibly punctual with no delay. While you don’t get the flat beds that you’d expect to find in Business Class on intercontinental flights, you do get a great service. It’s only a short flight at 1 hour and 30 minutes, and SWISS offers the kind of Business Class you’d find on most standard European flights.
The Business section is located at the front of the plane, with a curtain separating the two. Each middle seat is kept free, so my friend Elle sat in the aisle seat and I sat in the window, meaning we had space in between each other to stretch out. On departure we were offered a selection of newspapers, and the meal service included a really lovely cut of cold beef with horseradish and potato salad. We both enjoyed a glass of red wine from Switzerland to toast the end of our long weekend in the Alps.
I couldn’t fault the service from SWISS. Staff were friendly and our bags were offloaded from the plane quickly and efficiently, so we were able to breeze through Heathrow Airport and get straight back into London without a fuss. Zurich Airport is also a nice airport – it’s quiet, not too big and benefits from easy train connections to and from the city centre. With SWISS Business you benefit from priority boarding and priority baggage when you land, so this also makes things a lot more efficient.
And at the end of the flight you get Swiss chocolates, what’s not to love?
