Best Happy Hours in Jersey City, New Jersey

Who doesn’t love a good Happy Hour? With discounts on beers, wines, cocktails and bar snacks you can have a cheap evening out without looking at your bank account and feeling regret the next day. Since moving to Jersey City my friend and I have been on the hunt for the best Happy Hours in Jersey City. While not every place has a Happy Hour, we’ve found some good ones! 

Best Happy Hour Spots in Jersey City

Wurstbar 

My favorite Happy Hour spot in Jersey City has to be Wurstbar. The staff are super friendly and they have some outdoor seating, which is great if you have a dog. Wurstbar is a German-themed bar serving a variety of sausages and beers. It’s a chill place with a great vibe – you can’t go wrong with this spot. 

Draft wines are $6 (Pinot Noir, Malbec, Pinot Grigio, Rose) and they’re good! You can also enjoy $5 ciders and beers, $3 fries and $6 poutine! If you’re feeling extra hungry there’s also a 6oz lager & Haus Kielbasa deal for $10.  

We love that their Happy Hour runs till 7pm – plenty of time for a few vinos! 

Happy Hour at Wurstbar runs Monday to Friday from 4pm till 7pm

Matthew’s Food & Drink

Located a stone’s throw from Grove Street Path Station on Grove St, Matthew’s Food & Drink has friendly staff and great food. The menu features American fare, including sandwiches, burgers and entrees such as short rib ragu and filet mignon.

The Happy Hour at Matthew’s Food & Drink includes $5 beers, $5 red or white wine and half priced signature cocktails. When it comes to price, this is the best Happy Hour deal in Jersey City.

Happy Hour at Matthew’s Food & Drink runs from 4pm till 6pm Wednesday to Friday.

Greene Hook

If you’re looking for a Happy Hour that runs every day of the week then head to Greene Hook. You can order half priced oysters ($1.50 instead of the usual $3), $5 tacos, $3 Coors Light/Yuengling, $6 house wines and $1.50 off craft beers. 

Greene Hook has outdoor tables and a large, spacious interior with TV screens for watching sports. 

Happy Hour at Greene Hook runs from 4pm to 6pm daily.   

The Archer 

The Archer is a dimly lit, cozy bar on Newark Ave serving a menu that features interesting meats. Try their duck poutine, spicy elk meatballs, venison cheesesteak or wild boarito for something a little different. 

Their Workman’s Comp happy hour features $5 draft lager and $9 cocktails such as Old Fashioned, Daiquiri and Manhattan.

Happy Hour at The Archer runs Monday to Friday from 5pm till 7pm

Dullboy

Dullboy is a small, intimate bar with a literary theme, complete with walls filled with typewriters and colorful books. There’s also a covered back patio if you’d prefer to sit outside. 

Food-wise the menu features a variety of small plates including deviled eggs, ceviche, crudo tacos, lettuce wraps and lobster dumplings. 

Dullboy’s happy hour features any classic cocktail for $8 on weekdays, plus $1 oysters on Tuesdays.

Pet Shop

Pet Shop bar Jersey City

Pet Shop is not in fact a Pet Shop as the name suggests but a popular neighborhood bar that gets pretty crowded on weekends. The bar has an outdoor patio and a wine bar in the basement.

Pet Shop’s Happy Hour includes $1 off drafts and $2 off well drinks. 

Happy Hour at Pet Shop runs from 4pm till 7pm Monday to Friday and !2am till close Sunday to Thursday. 

Lokal

Situated on the Jersey City waterfront with views of the Manhattan skyline, Lokal is an upscale restaurant that’s perfect for a romantic evening or special occasion. While there’s no outdoor patio, you can still enjoy great views through the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows.  

Happy Hour discounts are available on both food and drinks. Patrons enjoy $5 beers and $7 wines, including red, white, rose and cava. 

Food specials include $1 oysters, a $16 cheese board and an $18 meat board. There’s also a deal for 3 for $21 on a selection of Parmesan and truffle aioli fries, crispy brussels sprouts, roasted baby beets, crudite and chicken satay.

Happy Hour at Lokal runs from 4pm till 6pm Wednesday to Sunday. 

Cellar 335

Located on the edge of downtown Jersey City on Newark Ave, this tropical tiki bar/restaurant serves Asian inspired dishes and craft cocktails in fun, one-of-a-kind mugs. There’s even a cocktail that comes in a SPAM can!

Highlights from the Cellar 335 food menu include avocado fried rice, Korean style wings, charred edamame and drunken chicken noodles. Happy Hour includes $2 off specialty cocktails, wine and beer. 

Happy Hour at Cellar 335 takes place from 5pm till 7pm Tuesday through Friday and between midnight and 2am on Saturdays.

Frankie

Frankie is an Australian restaurant named after a chihuahua with a “big personality”. The interior is fun and stylish, with mid-century Cesca chairs, lots of plants and a blue tiger on the wall.

Happy Hour drink specials include $5 beer and wine, $8 cocktails, $15 pitchers and a $10 flatbread + beer/wine special. The choice of flatbreads includes Muhamara, Hummus and Labneh.

Happy Hour at Frankie runs from 4pm till 7pm Tuesday through Friday.

The Ashford

The Ashford is a large multi-level bar with a garden rooftop located just a short walk from the Grove St Path station. On weekdays the vibe is chill but on weekends it turns into a rowdy club that attracts a young crowd. If you’re into sports, The Ashford has plenty of TV screens for watching.

The Ashford’s Happy Hour menu features $5 Coors Lite/Miller Lite/Craft beer of the week, $6 house red and white wines, and $7 select mixed drinks.

Happy Hour at The Ashford is from 4pm to 7pm Monday to Friday.

Hudson Hound

This modern Irish restaurant serves dishes made with locally sourced ingredients and craft beers from around the world. There’s a Sunday Roast with all the trimmings on Sundays and a full Irish breakfast at brunch time on weekends. Hudson Hound also has a speakeasy in the basement – just ask a member of staff and they’ll open the door for you.

During Happy Hour draft beers are $7 and house wines are $8. You can also order a 21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon beer for $5, a Coors Lite bottle for $6 or a Veltins Pilsner can for $6. A bucket of beers is $20.

Happy Hour at Hudson Hound goes from 4pm to 6pm Tuesday-Friday.

Pint Bar

Pint Bar is a fun gay bar that serves an ever-changing menu of over 50 craft beers as well as giant “ducked up” cocktails. This friendly bar has been serving drinks since 1911 and has regular events like trivia nights and themed parties. Customers control the music at Pint Bar but not with a regular jukebox – instead you pick the songs you want to play using an app and then everyone votes on what plays next.

Happy Hour includes $5 Well Drinks, $4 Miller Lite & Yuengling and $6 Sangria & Wine – one of the cheapest Happy Hours in Jersey City!

Happy Hour at Pint Bar runs every day from opening till 7 p.m.
