Summer is drawing closer and closer, so that means the festival season is about to begin! With over 400 worldwide events and counting, a trip around Europe sounds like an amazing way to spend your summer vacation.
It’s never too early to start planning, so we’ve picked the 7 most fun festivals to attend in 2023, from smaller gatherings to large-scale events!
Primavera Sound
Barcelona, Spain, 29 May – 4 June; Porto, Portuga, 7 June – 10 June
Primavera Sound in Barcelona marks the start of the festival season in Europe. Since 2001 the festival has turned the Parc del Forum into a week-long musical spectacle. In 2023 things are really heating up! Featuring headliners like Depeche Mode, Rosalía, Pet Shop Boys, and Kendrick Lamar.
In 2012, Primavera Sound expanded by adding an event the following weekend in the city of Porto, Portugal. With a staggering collection of indie rock talent, the recipe hasn’t changed. In between festivals, anything from guided tours in Lisbon to boast trips in Ibiza, a tour of Spain and Portugal is always a good idea!
Roskilde
Roskilde, Denmark , 24 June – 2 July
With more than 130,000 attendees each year, Roskilde is one of the biggest events in Europe and the biggest in the Nordic nations. Since 1971, it has taken place south of Roskilde City, Denmark and has attracted top acts, with music playing for a full week. This year’s top performers are Blur, Queens of the Stone Age, Lil Nas X, Rosalía, Burna Boy, and Christine and the Queens!
Glastonbury
Pilton, UK, 21 – 25 June
No list of European festivals would be complete without mentioning Glastonbury. It is one of the longest-standing music festivals in Europe, with the first festival being held back over 50 years ago.
A never-ending array of experiences, stages, and performers, as well as the frantic rush for tickets, are all an essential part of the experience of Glastonbury. With over 70 performers and across 100 stages and areas, this year’s lineup will feature Guns N’ Roses, Elton John, Arctic Monkey, Lizzo, and many, many more!
EXIT
Novi Sad, Serbia, 6 – 9 July
Since 2001, the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad has served as the venue for EXIT. And is likely to have had the greatest impact on Serbian tourism over the past 20 years of any single event.
EXIT is the region’s top choice for casual festival goers, thanks to its wide variety of performers from every musical genre. This year’s lineup includes The Prodigy, Wu-Tang Clan, Eric Prydz, Skrillex, Indira Paganotto, and more!
Sziget Festival
Budapest, Hungary, 10 – 16 August
Sziget, an island located on the edges of Budapest in the middle of the river Danube, is where over 500,000 people gather every year for a week of music and dancing! The festival features some of the biggest stars in electronic, pop, and rock: David Guetta, Billie Eilish, Imagine Dragons, Florence, and the Machine, among many others!
Dimensions Festival
Tisno, Croatia, 31 August – 4 September
Located between Split and Zadar, the small fishing village of Tisno, with its Garden Resort and Barbarellas Discotheque, will host the biggest electronic music stars! The event is perhaps best known for its famous boat parties!
They feature all-day excursions around the Adriatic with the best DJs in the world performing, like Tasha, OK Williams, Tim Reaper, Malika, and more. Superbloom Festival
Munich, Germany, 2 – 3 September
