Are you looking for something different to a standard night out? Perhaps you’re among the growing crowd of people wanting to drink less or snub alcohol altogether. Or maybe you’re just bored of the same routines and feel hungry for something new.
Whatever the case, there are plenty of ways to let your hair down and socialise that don’t involve a trip to the pub or club. You could save some money and avoid a hangover too. Result!
So where should you start next time the weekend comes around or you finish up at work? We’ve gathered some ideas for fun alternatives to nights out below.
Go to a new gym or sports class
While it might not always feel like it, exercise is proven to make you feel good. Team sports can be especially beneficial, allowing you to meet like-minded people and form close bonds.
Individual sports can still offer social benefits too; a running club could be a good option if you want to explore the local area. Many gyms meanwhile offer fun classes for a range of abilities.
Try a sports event
On a similar note, few experiences can compare to live sport. Can you take in a live match or competition and see how the pros do it?
An alternative option is to book a tour of a famous stadium; the likes of Anfield, home to Liverpool Football Club, have plenty of history attached to them. You could even pick up a souvenir while you’re there, like some new Mohamed Salah merch!
Attend a cultural event
From music gigs to comedy and theatre nights, there are loads of ways to soak up some culture on an evening. Sure, many of these events are likely to sell alcohol, but that’s not the main focus!
Start by checking for cultural events listings in your local area. Major names and productions are likely to come at a cost, but smaller events can be far cheaper and more intimate too.
Indulge in a movie night
If you’re a film buff, why not take a trip to the cinema and lose yourself in the latest blockbuster? Whether alone or with company, seeing a film on the big screen is always an immersive experience.
You could stay in and get cosy instead, of course. Call your mates over, fill up on snacks and throw on a classic!
Go out for food (or host a dinner party)
Are you tired of eating the same meals over and over? Book in at a restaurant and treat your tastebuds to something made by someone else. You could go for comfort or push yourself with more experimental cuisine.
Another option is to host a dinner party. You could even take it in turns within your group, like the TV show Come Dine With Me!
Could any of these options help you release stress without hitting the bar?
