A Quick Intro to Scotland
Home of haggis, orange cattle, bagpipes, whiskey and beautiful highlands, Scotland is a place that’s definitely worth adding to your UK itinerary.
Most visitors head straight to the country’s capital, Edinburgh, which is home to the iconic Edinburgh Castle and Arthur’s Seat, which offers panoramic views of the city from atop an extinct volcano.
But don’t just stop at Edinburgh. Rent a car and embark on a road trip to see highlights such as Loch Lomond, Loch Ness, Glenfinnan Viaduct, Isle of Skye, and the stunning Northern Highlands. You could even take the ferry over to the Orkney Islands to see Skara Brae, one of the world’s best preserved Stone Age villages.
The country is full of castles and whiskey distilleries, which make for a good themed road trip. Many people dream of driving the Whiskey Trail, which covers eight malt whisky distilleries in Scotland’s Speyside. You could also pay a visit to the islands of Islay and Jura, which produce some of the world’s best Scotch.
If you’re a keen golfer, you’ll no doubt already know that Scotland is famous for its golf courses, particularly St Andrews, which often hosts the British Open. If you’re not a golfer, there’s still plenty to get you excited.
This Scotland travel guide is packed with essential info and ideas to help you plan your perfect Scotland itinerary.
