A Quick Intro to South Africa

Located on the southern tip of Africa, South Africa takes a long time to fly to but it’s a spectacular country with incredible scenery.

When people would ask me what my favorite place I’ve visited is, I always had trouble answering that question. But once I spent one week in Cape Town, the answer was easy.

With stunning beaches backed by majestic mountains, Cape Town boasts a dramatic landscape that’s reminiscent of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Walking along the top of Table Mountain is a must, as is a visit to the V&A waterfront, where you can dine on fresh seafood and take a boat out on the water.

While staying in Cape Town, I’d 100% recommend renting a car or taking day trips outside the city. The nearby wine producing region of Stellenbosch is exceptionally beautiful, with hundreds of wineries and vineyards to discover.

Boulder’s Beach, which is home to a colony of African penguins, is also an unforgettable experience that makes for a great day trip.

Of course there’s more to South Africa than Cape Town. If you’ve dreamed of going on safari, then Kruger National Park is a popular choice for viewing big game. The gateway to Kruger is the city of Johannesburg, which is known as the “city of gold” because it began as a 19th-century gold mining settlement.

Despite South Africa’s turbulent history with apartheid and issues with crime and corruption, things are gradually improving. The country has a truly beautiful landscape and unique experiences that you won’t forget in a hurry.
