Samsonite Guardit Backpack Review

Samsonite GuardIT Laptop Backpack Review

Since I’m a travel blogger, it’s probably no surprise to you that I love luggage. I’ve developed quite an extensive luggage collection over the years as I like to have a bag for every occasion. One thing that I do really find essential is a bag to carry my 15″ MacBook Pro, since I never travel anywhere without it.

I’d been carrying around an old Swissgear laptop backpack for the last 6 years but it was starting to fall apart at the seams, so I thought it was about time for an upgrade to something better. After weighing up the options I plumped for the Samsonite GuardIT Laptop Backpack in grey, since it’s big enough for a 15″ inch laptop but also has quite a slim profile. After travelling with it to Paris and The Cotswolds, here’s what I think of it so far:

The Samsonite GuardIT Laptop Backpack

One of the things I love the most about this backpack is the slim pocket on the front where I can store my passport for easy access. Whenever I needed to present my passport at check-in or immigration I knew exactly where my passport would be, and it was so easy to get it out or put it away again. The stripe of orange also adds a nice splash of colour to compliment the grey fabric.

My second favourite thing about this bag is the fact that it has a separate laptop pocket that holds laptops up to 16-inches. Some laptop backpacks just have one compartment, so if you want to take out your laptop at security, you have to remove all your other stuff to get it out. The separate laptop compartment means I can get my laptop in and out without having to unpack and re-pack my bag.

I found this backpack really comfortable to carry and the straps are pretty wide, plus it has a slim profile so you can stay within the usual carry-on baggage dimension specifications. No complaints there at all. The main compartment is big enough to hold my mirrorless camera, my makeup bag and other accessories I usually travel with. There’s a tablet pocket too, if you carry an iPad or other tablet device.

Along the top of the bag there’s a small fleece-lined zip pocket – I find this really useful for storing small things like keys, money and credit cards. Basically anything small that I need to be able to access pretty quickly.

The front compartment has various pockets and organisational compartments where you can store things like pens, SD cards, power banks, iPhone cables and other bits and bobs. The only gripe I have about this bag (and it’s very small) is that I’m not so keen on the feel of the fabric Samsonite has used for the lining, which feels a bit plasticky – I’m used to a silkier lining. The external fabric is durable and high quality though, and I do really love this bag.

I’m only 5ft tall and very petite in build, so I prefer to have something that’s easy to carry around and not too bulky – the Samsonite GuardIT laptop backpack fits the bill.  It also has mesh pockets on both sides for a water bottle.

All in all I think it’s a great backpack and it has become my go-to carry on bag.

If you order the bag from Duifhuizen bags & travel they have worldwide delivery and a 30-day return period if you’re not happy with the bag, they also offer free returns. I think you will be though!

  1. Thank you for your review – I am 5’3″ and as you indicate that you find the bag acceptable in size it has given me more of a review suitable to my needs.
