A Quick Intro to Germany

Hear the word ‘Germany’ and your mind probably conjures up images of beer, festivals, pretzels, bratwurst and Lederhosen. But there’s so much more to the country than that.

Germany shares borders with nine other countries and has a 2389km stretch of coastline that sits on the North and Baltic seas. It’s the second most populated country in Europe after Russia and has the largest economy in the EU. The country therefore offers plenty of variety, with scenic forests, fairytale castles, sandy beaches, charming towns and fascinating cities to discover.

Of course, nobody can really forget the country’s dark history, when Adolf Hitler invaded much of Europe and decided to commit mass genocide. But thankfully it’s something that Europe has vowed will never be allowed to happen again and Germans are very aware of their country’s chequered past.

The capital of Berlin is filled with museums and is known for its techno mega-clubs. It’s also home to the Berlin Wall, which is covered in interesting . Other popular cities to visit in Germany include Cologne, Frankfurt, Dresden, Hamburg and Munich.

Munich is of course home to the famous Oktoberfest festival, which attracts thousands of costume-clad visitors each year. Taking place annually in September/October, this fun festival

If you like driving the country is home to some of the world’s best drives. Drive with no speed limit on the Autobahn, drive the ‘Romantic Road’ past whimsical castles and medieval cities, or meander through the Black Forest, stopping at spa towns like Baden-Baden along the way.
