I Hate Goodbyes

i hate goodbyes

If you asked me one thing I hate about travel, it’s goodbyes.

I guess in life we eventually have to say goodbye to people at some point, but I have to do it on a regular basis, and that really sucks.

It’s one of the downsides to not having a permanent place to call home and constantly traveling all the time.

You make some of the best friends of your life on the road, and sometimes you wish you could put them in your suitcase and keep them with you.

Even as I travel more and more, I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it. Some people are the types who have a big send off…but me, I’m the type to slip away quietly. Somehow it just seems a bit easier that way.

When I do say goodbye to awesome people though, I’ve learnt that I’ll see them again somewhere else in the world. The best people we meet traveling, we always meet twice.

And that’s why I prefer to say “see you soon”.

Some I’ve arranged to visit, others I’ve accidentally bumped into on the other side of the world. The more I travel, the more I realize that the world is small.

Only the other day, I was walking across a bridge in Brisbane and I bumped into two people I know from Portugal. I had no idea they were going to be there, yet I bumped into them in the same place at the same time, all the way on the other side of the world.

Does the world work in mysterious ways? I think so.

Of course, the Internet has made it so easy to keep track of the people we’ve met, that sometimes I wonder what we would have ever done without it. It keeps us all connected, so we can see each other again.

One day it will be nice to set up base and not have to keep saying goodbye, but I’m nowhere near done with my travels yet. It’s a big world out there, and while you’re young it’s the best time to do it!

Hi I'm Victoria, a British girl from Manchester. After graduating from university I decided there was more to life than the hours between 9 and 5, so I packed my journalism degree into my suitcase to travel the world and find a way to make money at the same time. I now call London home, although I still travel whenever I can. I hope to inspire you to be your own boss, live life and see the world.
