A Quick Intro to Mexico

With powdery white beaches, lush jungles, magnificent ruins and delicious food, it’s no wonder Mexico is a firm favorite with US travelers.

Whether you want to stay in a luxury resort in the Riviera Maya or backpack around the country, Mexico has something to suit all tastes and budgets.

Many people flock to the east coast, which is known for its white sandy beaches, cenotes (natural sinkholes) and Mayan ruins. Cancun and Playa del Carmen are home to tons of all-inclusive hotels, while Tulum is known for its chic villas, techno parties and glamorous aesthetic.

Beaches on the west coast are more of a golden color and the water more of a green/blue, but you can still expect beautiful scenery and warm waters. Puerto Escondido, Sayulita and Puerto Vallarta are some of the most popular beach towns on this side.

Located in the center of the country at an altitude of 2,240 meters (7,350 ft), Mexico City is the oldest capital city in the Americas and has tons to see and do. Museums, shopping, art galleries, bars…it’s a cosmopolitan city with some trendy, hip neighborhoods.

Lots of tourists also flock to Oaxaca, which is one of the best food and drink destinations in the world. The city is known for its mezcal and moles (thick Mexican sauce) but there are tons of dishes to try here. If you want to try a bit of everything head to Mercado 20 de Noviembre, which is a vibrant market with tons of street stalls selling all kinds of local food.
