Are you planning a new journey but wondering how can you take care of your skin while away from home, and arriving at your destination looking fresh? We got the answers.
Just because you’re on the move, doesn’t mean you should neglect your skin care routine. On the contrary, whatever you did back home – keep doing it, no matter where you are.
Long flights, jet lag, weather change, and many other factors can wreak havoc on your skin. But if you plan on time, you can avoid the long-term consequences of neglecting your skin and maybe return home looking better than when you left! To quickly adapt your skin to new environments and preserve its quality, check out the five basic skin care tips to follow while traveling.
This is the first thought that should come to your mind before you leave – what are the conditions of your destinations? Are you going to deal with hot or freezing weather? Is the humidity level huge? What about air pollution? With a bit of research, you can know what to anticipate and whether you’ll require some adjustments in your skin care routine or not.
Keep the routine
Now that you arrived at your destination, carry on with your skin care routine, and if necessary due to the new conditions – include some additional measures to get your skin accustomed as quickly as possible.
Don’t forget to cleanse or exfoliate your skin two times per day (morning and evening), to eliminate all the dead skin, sweat, oil, and other debris from it. Make sure to apply moisturizer regularly, particularly if you’re flying as it will most certainly dry out your skin, due to the very low humidity. Additionally, always stay hydrated and by all means – skip the alcohol.
Essentials – travel-sized edition
Instead of buying distinct products and experimenting with your skin, stick with the products you and your skin are accustomed to, but get them in travel-sized versions to avoid making compromises and save precious space.
Keep in mind that there are rules about what precisely you can bring to the airplane. As you’ll be required to bring the mini-sized products, if you can’t seem to find your favorite products in the appropriate size, invest in tiny (transparent) glass jars and put them inside, to always have whatever you might need close to you.
Create a small & handy beauty kit that includes the most valuable skin care products such as:
- Essential makeup
- Lip balm
- Eye Cream
- Face moisturizer
- Hand sanitizer
- Eco-friendly wet wipes
- Dry shampoo
Don’t be hesitant to use some of these products while flying! It’s perfectly acceptable, even desirable, so you can avoid landing at the airport looking like a mess.
This one might seem obvious, but we can’t stress enough how important this is – always wear sunscreen, even on cloudy days or during flights. And include body parts like the neck, hands, or any possible skin spots that may be exposed to the sun. Choose the SPF of at least 40, so you won’t have to worry.
Pro tip: Intensify your protection by wearing the hat and sunglasses too!
We all know how intriguing new food (or drinks) can be when we hit a new destination. Usually, that’s because we are curious and unfamiliar with that food, as we probably can’t try it back home. But no matter how tempting this can get, choose your meals (and drinks) sensibly if your skin really matters to you.
Too much fat, sodium, alcohol, or sugar will most certainly deteriorate your skin, regardless of what products you are using. There is nothing wrong with trying something occasionally, after all, you want to experience the new country or region in every way. But your regular food selection should include healthy food and water.
Of course, everyone’s idea on skin care is different, and in this post, we only included some basics to make your journey as pleasurable as possible. We hope we provided you with the useful info and if you follow all of our basic tips, your skin will be grateful.
