Yogi Tea Review

Drinking Yogi Tea: My Review and #7minuteschallenge

Several years ago I noticed I had a bad intolerance to caffeine. My palms would sweat, I felt anxious and instead of feeling focused and alert, I just felt distracted, shaky and confused. I tried drinking decaf coffee but that didn’t help much and then eventually cut coffee out completely. Fast forward to the present day and I can’t even drink Earl Grey or Coca Cola without feeling wired and a little bit sick.

However, if you do not have any problems with caffeine and can handle it quite well, there’s a lot for you to try out. For instance, the other day a friend of mine was telling me about coffee bags. They are quite new but already gaining so much popularity. Click here to find out more about them.

So I’ve ventured into the world of herbal, caffeine-free teas because I love a hot drink and don’t want to miss out on a good cup of tea. I am English after all, it’s in our culture! I love discovering new flavours and there’s definitely more to herbal teas than just peppermint and chamomile. Lately I’ve been trying out a brand called Yogi Tea and I absolutely love it. I’ve tried all sorts of different brands but find many of them taste a little bit flat, boring and predictable. This one, however, is a really quality product packed with flavour and fragrant smells.

What is Yogi Tea?

Yogi Tea Benefits

Yogi Tea’s roots stem from the 3,000 year old Indian Ayurvedic teachings about the balance between body, mind and spirit. In 1969, Yogi Bhajan, a master of Kundalini Yoga, moved to the West and brought with him his wisdom and knowledge of yoga, as well as an aromatic tea spice blend, later nicknamed ‘Yogi tea’ by his students.

Over 40 years later, the legacy lives on and Yogi Tea has a selection of over 40 unique, rich and complex tea blends designed to promote wellness and balance. Using the health giving power of herbs, Yogi Tea makes healthy products that support and active, healthy and conscious holistic lifestyle.

What I like about Yogi Tea is that the company is also environmentally conscious and committed to organic farming methods, so you know that there are no synthetic pesticides or mineral fertilisers being used and there’s no genetic engineering involved.

Every tea has a different flavour and function and is coupled with it’s own unique yoga pose to further strengthen the positive effects of the tea.

The blends

Yogi Tea Blends

I have to say I am now I’m a bit obsessed with Yogi Tea and I’ve been trying out the following flavours:

White Tea Aloe Vera – A blend of white tea and aloe vera, mildly spicy turmeric and fragrant common daisy. The warming cinnamon in it gives the tea a slightly sweet taste.

Relax – Relax is designed to create peaceful tranquility. The tea combines chamomile and linden flower to regain peaceful balance in stressful situations. Rose hips, orange peel and raspberry leaf bring a softness to the tea.

Wellbeing – ‘Wellbeing’ is all about being good to yourself. It contains aromatic sage and warming cinnamon to reflect the age old Mediterranean tradition of enjoying sage tea. Lemongrass, cardamom and liquorice also enhance the flavour.

Inner Harmony –  Inner Harmony is meant to help us face the rhythm of the day in a relaxed way. It’s packed with ingredients, including lemon balm, rooibos, liquorice, cinnamon, cocoa shells, basil, peppermint, chamomile flowers, rosemary, black pepper, fennel and lavender flowers.

Immune Support – As we head into winter this is the time to catch colds and flu so it’s always useful to do what you can to naturally support your immune system. The bitter-sweet taste of Echinacea is combined with fruity Elderberry and aromatic basil. Vitamin C from the acerola cherry provides a natural support to the immune system.

Heartwarming – This essence of this all day tea is to ‘celebrate’. Basil is combined with cinnamon, ginger and cardamom to add warmth and spice. Together with chili and black pepper they spread powerfully throughout the entire body.

I love them all but I especially love Heartwarming as it has this sweet aftertaste that reminds me a bit of the aftertaste you get with a Moroccan mint tea. I also love Immune Support, which is great in winter to fight cold and flu. My flatmate Helena also tried the tea and loves it too, so now we’re totally converted to these herbal teas. The flavours are completely unique and taste like the kind of drink you get after a treatment in a spa. Fresh, organic, healthy and revitalising.

My #7minuteschallenge

Mindfulness Meditation Exercises

The perfect cup of Yogi Tea takes 7 minutes to brew, so Yogi Tea challenged me to fill these 7 minutes with a personal exercise while it reaches its optimum brew.

I spend long days working on my laptop as a blogger with a never-ending to do list, so I think it’s good to take a break from my computer screen once in a while. I’ve always found that getting up to make a cup of tea gives me a breather but I’d never thought of completing an exercise while I wait. It seems like a good idea and better than standing staring at the kettle!

Yogi Tea 7 Minutes Challenge

I chose the tea “Inner Harmony” and spent a few minutes meditating to clear my mind. I’ve been doing a lot of mindfulness exercises lately as sometimes I find myself getting quite stressed and sometimes a bit down, especially in winter. The great thing about meditating is that anyone can do it and it can be practiced anywhere, even in your bedroom. Each Yogi Tea blend also has a specific yoga pose or exercise you can do if you’re stuck for ideas.
