Las Vegas Strip at night

The Best Sushi on the Las Vegas Strip

Want to know where to find the the best sushi in Las Vegas? Here are my top restaurant picks on the Strip…

I. Love. Sushi.

If I had to choose only one type of food to eat for the rest of my life, it would be sushi. Wherever I travel to, I seem to end up eating sushi at some point or another during my trip.

Las Vegas these days isn’t just about gambling, shows and partying…it’s also foodie heaven. It’s all about culinary experiences, and the Strip is now home to some of the world’s most celebrated chefs.

There are restaurants to satisfy any food craving in Las Vegas, including sushi. So you can imagine how excited I was to feed my addiction for raw fish and check out the Strip’s sushi offerings.

Now you might be thinking; “Wait a second…Vegas is in the middle of the dessert, right?” I am often a little bit skeptical about eating fish when I am nowhere near the water, but the fish and seasonal ingredients are flown in daily from the finest suppliers in the world.

I spent a week in search of Vegas’s finest sushi restaurants, sampling dishes from simple nigiri and sashimi, to exquisite Japanese tapas and innovative sushi rolls bursting with flavour. After 7 days of sushi, I’m surprised I didn’t turn into a fish!

So here it is…a list of some of the best sushi on the Las Vegas Strip. *Warning…this might make you hungry*

Yellowtail at Bellagio

Yellowtail at Bellagio- Best Sushi on the Las Vegas Strip

The Lowdown: Yellowtail at Bellagio was highly recommended by everyone I met in Las Vegas, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. This upscale sushi restaurant serves a menu of authentic traditional and modern Japanese cuisine created by award-winning Chef Akira Back. In addition to mouth-watering sushi, guests are also treated to a fantastic view of the Bellagio Fountain Show.

What I ate: I had the Big Eye Tuna Pizza with Micro Shiso and Truffle Oil, the Kobe Beef Tataki with Spicy Daikon, Garlic and Maldon Sea Salt, seared scallops topped with caviar, Lobster carpaccio with Sweet Shaved Onion, Cilantro and Amazu Ponzu, and Tempura Alaskan King Crab with Serrano, Sweet Ponzu and Shaved Red Onion.

What I thought: The Big Eye Tuna Pizza…wow. I’m salivating just thinking about it. This is definitely a firm favourite from the Yellowtail menu. Everything I ate was exquisite, but if you only order one thing, make sure it is the tuna pizza! Each dish was not only mouthwateringly delicious, it was a work of art. If you take a date, you may wish you didn’t have to share! The atmosphere was intimate but busy- just how I like it.

BARMASA at Aria

BarMasa at Aria sushi restaurant Las Vegas

The Lowdown: BARMASA at Aria serves modern Japanese Cuisine from Chef Masa Takayama, who also has an outpost called MASA in New York.  The restaurant at Aria has two dining spaces: a 150-seat  airy space beneath a TK-foot vaulted ceiling, and an intimate, reserved room of 54 seats called Shaboo, offering an omakase-style experience.

What I ate: The Kanpachi jalapeno with fried potato julienne, sashimi (Bluefin Tuna, Scallop and Snapper), Spicy Tuna Tataki, Peking duck with foie gras in moo-shu skin, sizzling spicy octopus.

What I thought: All the courses I had were delicious. The Peking Duck with Foie Gras comes in small taco-like servings and they leave an explosion of flavour in your mouth. I also loved the crispy texture of the Kanpachi, and the sashimi were some of the best cuts of fish I’ve ever had. There is an extensive Sake selection, and our server was a great help in selecting a sake to go with our meal. The restaurant itself is very minimal and spacious…perhaps too spacious for my liking. The warehouse-style interior with high ceilings and concrete floors made the place feel a little bit empty.

Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill at Cosmopolitan

Blue Ribbon Sushi at Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

The Lowdown: Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill was founded by chefs and restaurateurs Bruce and Eric Bromberg. The restaurant at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is the first in the Blue Ribbon chain to be located outside of New York City.

What I ate: From the Sushi Bar I ordered the Sushi selection, which includes 7 pieces and 1 roll. It included a spicy tuna roll, and an assortment of sushi including shrimp, tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore, sardine and fluke.

What I thought:  The sushi selection was simple, good, and hit the spot at $32. I dined at the bar and the atmosphere seemed fun and relaxed.

Sushi Roku at Caesars Palace

Sushi Roku at Cesars Palace Las Vegas

The Lowdown: Sushi Roku is located in the Forum Shops at Ceasars Palace. There are also locations in Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Pasadena and Scottsdale. Sushi Roku claims to offer “superlative traditional sushi, together with a splash of California innovation”. The dishes often incorporate diverse, non-traditional ingredients from Latin America and Europe.

What I ate: I suggest you have some faith in the sushi chef and ask what he recommends. I’m so glad I did, because the sushi was divine. I dined at the sushi bar and had the Seared Albacore Sashimi followed by the Shima Roll, which contains shrimp wrapped spicy tuna with cilantro and avocado.

What I thought: The sushi here was outstanding and I loved both dishes. I really had no idea what to order, so I let the chef do the choosing for me- I’m so glad I did.

Sushi Samba at The Shoppes at The Palazzo

Samba Hour at Sushi Samba Las Vegas

The Lowdown: Sushi Samba is a chain of sushi restaurants- there are locations in New York, London, Chicago, Miami and, of course, Las Vegas. Sushi samba serves a blend of unique blend of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine, so the sushi here features some unique and unusual flavours.

What I ate: I went for the Samba Hour from 11pm till Close. The Samba Hour is a sort of ‘Happy Hour’ showcasing dishes from one of the three countries of inspiration- Japan, Brazil or Peru. Dishes are cocktails are $6, so you’re definitely getting value for money. I ordered the Jalea de Calamar (crispy calamari) and the Inca Roll containing panko crusted shrimp, cashews, aji panca and lime. To drink I had the Peruvian Thyme cocktail containing pisco brandy, housemade thyme syrup, elderflower liqueur and fresh lime juice.

What I thought: For $6 these are supposed to be ‘small plates’ but I actually found the portions to be quite adequate and the cocktails were delicious. As for taste, I often like my sushi quite simple, so I found the lime flavours a little overpowering in the Inca Roll.

Wazuzu at Encore

Wazuzu at Encore Sushi Restaurant Las Vegas

The lowdown: Wazuzu at Encore has a bold red decor dominated by a 27-foot crystal dragon. The menu features Pan-Asian flavours inspired by Chinese Japanese, Indian, Singaporean and Thai cuisine. Alongside the sushi menu you’ll find Dim Sum, rice and noodle dishes, plus specialities such as Panang Curry, Cantonese Sea Bass, Crispy Orange Beef and Thai Spicy Basil Stir-Fry.

What I ate: I stopped by for lunch at Wazuzu and had the Red Dragon Roll which is a spicy tuna, panko shrimp, avocado and cucumber inside out roll, topped with tuna sashimi, Japanese rice crackers and dressed with sweet chilli sauce.

What I thought: I loved the decor and the service was impeccable. The restaurant is small though with no sushi bar- it would be interesting to return to this restaurant in the evening to see what the atmosphere is like. The actual sushi menu is pretty small and very pricey, but the sushi you do get is top notch. The Red Dragon Roll was possibly the best roll I have ever tasted, it was to die for! I loved the crunchiness of the rice crackers on the top.

N.B. Some of you might be wondering why Nobu didn’t make it onto the list, but I was specifically sticking to sushi restaurants on the Las Vegas Strip and Nobu is off-strip.

I received complimentary meals at Yellowtail and BARMASA. As always opinions are my own.

  1. While I was not blown away by the Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill at the Cosmopolitan, you’ve convinced me to try barMASA the next time I am in Vegas. The Kanpachi jalapeno and Peking duck with foie gras are right up my alley!

I would also highly recommend one place that is not on your list, which is Shibuya at the MGM Grand. They have an Omakase (tasting menu) priced at $120 per person that includes an oyster dish, hamachi served three ways, a sashimi duo, a Wagyu beef tataki, and an Aussie lobster tail served with an uni sake butter.
