Greece Travel Guide

A Quick Intro to Greece

Famous for its ancient Greek ruins and beautiful islands with whitewashed buildings, Greece is one of the best destinations in Europe for a summer vacation.

For a first time visit to Greece I’d suggest spending two days in Athens so you can see the Acropolis, the Parthenon and other historic sites. Then it’s time to hop on a ferry to explore the Greek Islands, which are known for their turquoise blue waters, idyllic beaches and charming towns.

Mykonos and Santorini are the most popular with first-timers and each one has its own vibe. Mykonos is known for its windmills, beach clubs and hedonistic nightlife, while Santorini has a more romantic vibe with rugged scenery and spectacular sunsets.

Other cool islands to visit in the Cyclades include Ios, Milos, Delos, Paros, Antiparos and Naxos. However, there are tons of Greek Island chains to explore.

One of my favorite island chains is the Sporades Islands, which is where the movie Mamma Mia was filmed. The island of Skiathos boasts lush pine forests and home to some of the best beaches in Greece.

The Ionian Islands are also very popular and have an Italian feel since they were part of the Venetian empire for over 400 years. Corfu has a very charming old town which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while Zakynthos is home to the famous “Shipwreck Beach” and blue grottos.

When you’re relaxing in the Greek Islands you feel like you’re a million miles from everywhere else. It’s a truly stunning part of the world and should definitely be on your bucket list. In this Greece Travel guide you’ll find plenty of information to help you plan the trip of a lifetime.
