5 reasons why Tanzania is the best safari destination

I think that everyone, if they can, should experience a safari. Getting to see wild animals in their natural habitat is just breathtaking and something so incredible, I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying it. When it comes to planning a safari trip, you might feel a little overwhelmed – after all, where is the best place to go to see specific types of animals? Here are five reasons that I think Tanzania is the number one safari destination!

Bigger is better

Some of Africa’s largest game reserves and parks can be found in Tanzania, so you are really getting your money’s worth. Of course, each park or reserve has its own perks and reasons for visiting, but they are all fantastic. For example, the Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park in the south offers a rural, remote safari, experience, but if it’s chimpanzees swinging above your head that you want to see, it’s better to head to the shores of Lake Tanganyika further west.

The Great Migration

One of the highlights for me, is the striking site that is the great migration. Over a million wildebeest, and hundreds of thousands gazelles and zebras make their way from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara in Kenya. This circular grazing path ensures the best quality of life for the animals, and the most incredible visual for those of us lucky enough to see this jaw dropping natural act. Try to time your trip with being able to see a part of this journey – you won’t regret it.

So many options

There are so many choices to make when it comes to a safari in Tanzania, from where to go, to what accomodation to stay in and beyond. The thing about safaris are that the animals are free to roam, so it’s not guaranteed where to go to see them. This means that you need to use their footprints, dung and behaviour to stalk the animals. There are a lot of options for stalking the animals in Tanzania; a jeep is the classic way of course, but you could get up close and personal with a walking tour, or for something a little more unique, hop in a hot air balloon to enjoy a birds’ eye view of Tanzania and the magnificent animals it’s home to.

A safari for everyone

It is easy to think that a safari would be out of your budget but as there are so many different ways to do it, you can really tailor something that works for you. You can choose to stay in a luxury cabin, or just rough it in a tent. Tanzania offers a spectrum of differently priced deals, for long or short tours, luxury or basic. The animals will be the same whichever you choose!

All of the animals!

Tanzania has the highest concentration animals per square kilometer, in the world – in fact, there are around 4 million wild animals in the country alone! It has the largest lion population on the planet too, so if you want to see a lion in the wild, there is really no better place to go! It’s not just lions, either, it has the highest density of mammalian predators in the whole of Africa! The sheer volume of animals, from elephants and leopards to hippopotami and warthogs, means that Tanzania is the best place to go animal spotting!

After reading this, how could you not want to book a ticket to Tanzania right away?! It really is the best destination for a safari break for so many reasons! Let me know in the comments if you have been before, and what it was like, or if this post has inspired you to put it on your bucket list!
