06 Apr 5 Blogs you Should Read if You Want to Make Money from Your Travel Blog
So you love to travel the world? You’d like to make money from it so you don’t have to sit in a stuffy office somewhere? Then I suggest you get reading.
Read as much as you can and when you’re too tired to read, read some more. Research is vital if you want to set up any business, so why shouldn’t that apply to setting up a travel blog? If you want to make a business from your travel blog, then thankfully these days there are a few sites to help you do that.
When I started there was much less information in the public domain about monetization, travel blogging and what people were charging. Perhaps that’s because some people feel it’s distasteful to talk about money.
Blogs in other subject areas have been making money for years, and now travel blogging is finally starting to catch up. Thankfully, a number of successful travel bloggers have started to set up individual blogs discussing how to make money travel blogging. I suggest you read these whether you’re a newbie to travel blogging or you’ve been doing it for a while.
Travel Blog Challenge– Travel Blog Challenge has some useful articles, but it also has a forum where bloggers discuss the ins and outs of travel blogging, from gaining more Facebook followers to what to charge advertisers. It’s run by Todd Wassel from Todd’s Wanderings and challenges you to make $1000 per month and get an average of 1000 visitors per day in the 1000-1000 challenge. Todd’s Twitter handle is @toddwassel
Make Money Travel Blogging– Run by Craig from Indie Travel Podcast, Make Money Travel Blogging features videos from the man himself talking about different monetization topics. Craig’s blog is very interesting because he takes an experimental approach and discusses his goals, experiences and results. Craig’s Twitter handle is @craig_martin
Make Money As You Travel– * Update: 11.04.2013 Sadly this site has been suspended* Jane from Runaway Jane shares all the things she has learned along the way to living a location independent lifestyle. Jane, like many travellers, decided she was tired of the repeat cycle: save up, spend the money travelling, come home, save up again. She decided she needed to make money as she was travelling. She discusses how much you should charge for advertising and how to find advertisers, as well as tips for people living a location independent lifestyle. Jane’s Twitter handle is @runawayjane
ProBlogger– Pro Blogger is an essential blog to have in your RSS reader. Whilst it’s not focused specifically on travel blogging, the information can be applied to any blog. Owned by full-time blogger Darren Rose, ProBlogger is a really comprehensive guide to the business of blogging with tips and guest posts from other bloggers. ProBlogger’s Twitter handle is @problogger
Travel Blog Advice– Travel Blog advice is run by Anil from foXnoMad. This blog focuses on travel blogging with a more general approach, so you can find information on the more technical aspects as well as monetization and advertising. Anil is clued-up with the tech side of things so you can find out everything from how to configure the All-in-One SEO plugin to improving your page load time. Anil’s Twitter handle is @foxnomad

Posted at 19:09h, 06 AprilNice post – cheers for links, I will read them when I get chance. I’ve been battling with stupid IE browser non compliant issues for the last couple of days! Knowing what to charge for ads has always been a black art for me so far.
