Thailand Travel Guide

An Intro to Thailand

Thailand, known as “Land of Smiles”, is one of the most visited destinations in Southeast Asia, known for its amazing food, beautiful beaches and magnificent Buddhist temples.

There are over 40,000 temples in Thailand, with some of the most beautiful ones being Wat Rong Khun (the White Temple), Wat Arun (the Temple of Dawn) and Wat Pho (the Temple of the Reclining Buddha).

Most travelers start in Bangkok, which is a bustling city known for its palaces, temples, tuk tuks and markets. Rome around the Grand Palace, take a boat ride on the Chao Phraya River, party on Khao San Road, have a cocktail in one of the city’s rooftop bars…there are tons of fun things to do in the country’s capital.

The second most popular city to visit in mainland Thailand is Chiang Mai, which is located in the north of the country. The city is generally more laid-back than Bangkok, famous for its mountainous landscape, beautiful scenery, historic temples and vibrant food scene. Many people use Chiang Mai as a base to go trekking through the highlands and meet the hill tribes that inhabit this region.

If you just want to relax and soak up the sun, Thailand also has tons of islands with white sandy beaches and turquoise blue waters. Koh Samui, Phuket, Koh Tao, Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lipe and Koh Tao are some of the best Thai islands to visit. Koh Pha Ngan is famous for its full moon parties, which see thousands of tourists dancing and drinking under the light of the full moon.
