3 days on the georgous Great Ocean Road

During my time in Australia I have been so fortunate to see the one and only Great Ocean Road. Since I thought about going to this country, the Great Ocean Road was one of the top ranked things I wanted to see. Why? Because I imagined it so be absolutely incredible. And it really is…

For me, this coastline is unbelievably pretty. I really reminds me of some coastlines in Europe. It is quite similar to Denmark or Ireland, but it is even more beautiful. And it’s sunnier 😉

Besides that the Great Ocean Road has a lot of cool things to see and to discover. Especially the main attractions and the wildlife there is marvellous. Just book yourself a car you can sleep in and go for it. You will be blown away. Trust me!

The first thing that will come along your way, is Bells Beach, if you start from Melbourne (what most people do). Bells Beach is not just only a really beautiful beach, it is also one of the main locations on the World Surf Tour. As you might know, Australia is famous for surfing. It seems like “surfing” is almost part of the Australian culture. I personally like surfing a lot as well. That’s why I can understand the importance of this place and why it is on everyones list of things to see on the Great Ocean Road – because it is really pretty and it has epic waves.

The second place you should not miss, are the 12 Apostles. For me, this was one of the most beautiful parts along this coastline. The 12 Apostles are basically 12 big rocks (9 nowerdays), which rise above the ocean. On pictures the rocks looks quite big, but in reality this scenery is even more incredible. It’s crazy what mother nature is able to build over thousends of years. So don’t forget to take your camera 😉 You even have the possibility to go down (Gibson Steps) on the nearby beach to experience the magnitude of the rocks. Pretty cool!

What you should also have a look at on your Great Ocean Road tour, are Cape Otway and Apollo Bay. I loved these two spots. Apollo Bay is very scenic and has kind of a dramatic touch to it. Cape Otway has a very beautiful lighthouse, which is pretty cool to look at. You will find a pretty similar one called “Split Point Lighthouse”, which I prefer. I just think it looks even cooler 🙂

Of course, there are heaps of other amazing places on the Great Ocean Road. The above are just a selection of the most important ones. But what I always recommend to do on this stunning coastline is this: Soak up everything you see as much as you can, because this might very well be one of the most beautiful coastlines on earth.

Some people might disagree, but you can not deny that the Great Ocean Road has something to it, which is hard to explain. It’s very peaceful and powerful in a way. Nature is strong and healthy in this region. No doubt about that. Maybe this is the reason why you will find a lot of sweet animals along the way, if you take a close look. Koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, all kind of bird species and much more. A paradise for animal lovers.

So whenever you decide to take a road trip along this wonderful coastline, make sure to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride!

Hi I'm Victoria, a British girl from Manchester. After graduating from university I decided there was more to life than the hours between 9 and 5, so I packed my journalism degree into my suitcase to travel the world and find a way to make money at the same time. I now call London home, although I still travel whenever I can. I hope to inspire you to be your own boss, live life and see the world.
