Welcome to Las Vegas Sign: How to Get There (Without a Car)

Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign

The “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign is an iconic symbol of Las Vegas, yet you can spend your whole vacation in Vegas without ever actually standing in front of the sign. That’s because it’s not actually on the main part of the strip and it isn’t very accessible without a car. I was imagining it to be where all the major hotels are, but in fact it is located in the median on Las Vegas Boulevard South, past the Mandalay Bay.

If you’ve rented a car – I’d recommend easyrentcars – there is a small parking lot so you can park your car, but to access it you must be going south on Las Vegas Boulevard and heading away from Mandalay Bay towards the Las Vegas Premium Outlets.

How to Get to the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” Sign

If you want to have your photo taken with the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign and you don’t have a car, you need to get to Mandalay Bay hotel. There is a free tram from the Excalibur Hotel, or you can take The Deuce bus. From here, walk out of the Mandalay Bay and keep heading south, past Russell Road. You will see the Bali Hai Golf Club on your right and the sign is just across from it in the middle of the road.

As I left the Mandalay Bay I wondered if I was going the right way since it felt like I was walking into the middle of nowhere, but suddenly I saw lots of other tourists walking the same way. Then all of a sudden in the distance I saw the sign. You have to cross several lanes of traffic and dodge the cars to get to the median in the middle, so make sure you time it correctly.

The sign reads, “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada” on the front and “Drive Carefully” and “Come Back Soon” on the back. It was designed by Betty Willis and erected by Western Neon Company at a cost of $4,000.

Drive Carefully Come Back Soon

Luckily there were several other tourists there, so I was able to ask someone to take my picture. I’d advise you to go later in the day before sunset when it’s not quite as hot and the lighting is just right.

I thought this was pretty funny, a man had his dog dressed as a cowboy for his photo….

  1. Definitely wouldn’t attempt it in the middle of the night, i think that would be sketchy.I went there in the day and i still felt like i was walking into the middle of nowhere!

  2. Parking at the sign can be a problem. The Harley dealer is nearby and you should go in there anyway to look at their cool stuff and buy some food at their snack shop.
