Windsor Plaza Ho Chi Minh City Review

Ho Chi Minh City is chaotic and I have never seen so many motorbikes in my life. But staying in the Windsor Plaza hotel gave me the peace and relaxation I needed before beginning my jam-packed itinerary around South East Asia.

After a 17 hour journey from London to Kuala Lumpur, followed by a 6-hour wait at the airport and a 2 hour Air Asia flight, I touched down in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I was ready for a rest and a little bit of luxury before starting my one-month journey that would take me through Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar.

The Windsor Plaza hotel definitely gave me the pampering I needed!

The Location

The Windsor Plaza Ho Chi Minh City is located in District 5 of Ho Chi Minh City. There is a complimentary air-conditioned shuttle bus that runs to and from the downtown area, stopping opposite Ben Thanh Market.

It’s great that they offer this service so you don’t have to pay for a taxi into the centre, but it leaves the hotel every hour so if we missed it we had to wait for the next one. We also missed the last bus back on 2 occasions because we went out for the evening, so we had to take a taxi home instead.

The Room

The room featured twin beds and was fully carpeted. It featured a work station with wired internet which was fine for my laptop, but there was no WiFi so I had to use my phone in the lobby. Other facilities in the room included an electronic safe, a mini bar, a large LCD TV with international channels, plus a nice big double wardrobe.

The Bathroom

The bathroom had a shower/bathtub combination and came with the usual complimentary toiletries such as  shampoo, shower gel and moisturiser, plus a toothbrush, shower cap and comb. The wardrobe also had bathrobes and slippers.

The Reception

I loved the reception of this hotel. It’s opulent and lavish!

The Pool

The swimming pool can be found on the 24th floor, and offers panoramic views over Saigon. After a full day of sightseeing I took the opportunity to rest my legs and read a book by the pool. I often like to book hotels with pools if I’m staying in a hot country because it’s nice to relax and cool off after a day of sightseeing.

The Gym

Also located on the 24th floor is the fitness centre, where you can enjoy a workout with a view. The treadmills, cycling machine and cross trainer face a window offering panoramic views of Ho Chi Minh City.

If you get bored of the panorama there are 32″ inch televisions with a variety of international channels to keep you entertained. I’m not a gym fanatic but I had a short workout and then hit the sauna for some relaxation afterwards before catching my night bus to Nha Trang. It was useful to be able to use the showers and freshen up even though I had already checked out of the hotel that morning.

The View

The Windsor Plaza is the tallest building in this area, and offers incredible views over Ho Chi Minh City. If you head up to the swimming pool on the 24th floor you can gaze out over the built-up, sprawling city and feel a million miles away from the chaos below.

I recommend taking the elevator to the rooftop restaurant in the evening and having a cocktail or two on the terrace. It’s really romantic and the cityscape is beautiful when everything is lit up at night!

The Extras

A selection of goodies were waiting for me in the room, including a platter of fruit, some water and a luxury chocolate. These were devoured pretty quickly! We were also given 2 complimentary water bottles daily.

Buffet breakfast was included and I loved being able to eat noodles for breakfast!
