Review: New Travelodge Room at Travelodge Covent Garden

Since my flight to Tel Aviv was departing from London Luton early in the morning, I needed somewhere to stay in London the night before. I’m from Manchester, and it’s simply not possible to get to the airport that early by train. So I needed to find a hotel in London that would be convenient and provide easy access to the airport.

The Travelodge in Covent Garden was in an ideal spot on the Piccadilly Line, so I could take the tube straight to St. Pancras and then catch the train to Luton Airport Parkway. It also meant I could meet up with my friends from Traverse Events who happened to be running a pub crawl through Covent Garden to visit some of London’s historic pubs!

Travelodge Covent Garden: New Travelodge Room

Travelodge is commencing a £57 million refurbishment programme to its hotels during Spring 2013, and I had the opportunity to stay in one of the new Travelodge rooms in Covent Garden. New additions to the room include a super-comfy king-size bed, a stylish white contemporary en-suite bathroom with a power shower, stain & water resistant carpet in a dark shade of blue, a larger desk area, new reading lights and a phone charging socket built into the bed frame. The room also includes artwork above the bed to make it more pleasing to the eye.

So what did I make of it?

The Room

The room was simple and but spacious and had everything I needed. I thought it was well designed, with plenty of plug sockets all over the room for charging my electronics! There was a plug socket built into the bed frame (perfect for charging my phone at night), one below the main mirror (ideal for drying my hair), and one above the desk (where I could plug my laptop in).

I appreciated the tea and coffee making facilities so I could make a hot cup of tea when I woke up! It was also nice to be able to operate all the main lights from the switches next to the bed. The only thing I would have liked in this room, was free Wi-Fi. There is Wi-Fi, but you have to pay for it.

The Bed

This is a BEAST of a bed! And oh so comfy!

I did NOT want to get up for my flight in the morning!

The new Travelodge room features a king sized “Travelodge Dreamer Bed”, which boasts a 952 pocket spring mattress. This is the star of the zenhaven reviews because each individual spring is designed to follow the natural contour of your body in order to provide the correct amount of support and ensure you get a good night’s sleep. For extra comfort, the bed is dressed with a quilted mattress topper and ‘bounce back’ duvet and pillows. I definitely slept well, and I couldn’t get over how many big comfy pillows there were!

The Bathroom

The bathroom is contemporary and minimalistic, with a good power shower. Water pressure is always important in a hotel room!

Breakfast

The following morning I helped myself to food from the buffet before heading to the airport. I had a full-English breakfast, a bowl of grapefruit, fruit juice, and coffee. As hotel breakfasts go, it was pretty good!
