24 May Portoroz, Slovenia’s Glamorous Coastal Resort

Portoroz Beach

Whilst the Slovenian coast isn’t known for its beaches, since the most you’ll get is a patch of stones, Portoroz has it’s own man-made beach. Not the best beach in the world, but it’s good enough to lie your towel down on a lounger and soak up some sun.

Portoroz is known as Slovenia’s ‘glitzy’ coatal town, with palm trees, pricey hotels and fancy cars parked on the streets. We were staying in Piran, which in my opinion is a lot prettier, but we took the bus for 1 euro to Portoroz so we could laze on the beach and enjoy some sun.

Palm Trees in Protoroz, Slovenia

Portoroz has one main road with a small supermarket, plenty of tourist restaurants along the beachfront, car rental, ATMs, hotels and a casino if you like to gamble.

Portoroz is known for its nightlife so if you want to have a night out, this is where it’s at. The owner of our hostel in Piran took us to see Alaya Bar, which is a fancy Bali-style beach bar serving cocktails, drinks, ice cream and sandwiches. Unfortunately it was closed because it was out of season, but all the materials are imported from Indonesia. There are plenty of comfortable beds made out of bamboo, thatched parasols and beach cabanas.

Portoroz is a place for walks along the promenade, dining out and sunset cocktails.

Hi I'm Victoria, a British girl from Manchester. After graduating from university I decided there was more to life than the hours between 9 and 5, so I packed my journalism degree into my suitcase to travel the world and find a way to make money at the same time. I now call London home, although I still travel whenever I can. I hope to inspire you to be your own boss, live life and see the world.
