Pool at Isrotel Dead Sea Resort and Spa

Hotel Review: Isrotel Dead Sea Hotel & Spa

The Dead Sea in Israel is the lowest point on earth. At 400 metres below sea level, this enormous salt lake is so salty that nothing can live in it, hence the name! Many people vacation here to enjoy the therapeutic properties of the water, and to indulge in some spa treatments at the hotels.

I stayed at the Isrotel Dead Sea Hotel & Spa which is towards the edge of the strip of hotels here. It’s a fairly contemporary and modern hotel which I liked a lot. We were staying on a half-board basis, so dined in the main dining room, but there is also an a la carte restaurant called ‘The Ranch House Dead Sea’. The dinner buffet was really very good, with plenty of options and free wine or beer. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel but as with most of the hotels in Israel, you have to pay for it. You can purchase a code at reception either by the hour, or for a 24-hour period. There was live music in the lobby bar from 9pm, although I went straight to sleep as I was exhausted from visiting Masada and experiencing my first ever mud wrap!

The View

In the photos below, you can see the fantastic views of the Dead Sea from my room. The hotels here all lie along the one road, so all you have to do is cross the street and you’re at the beach. I loved sitting on my balcony at sunset and in the morning to enjoy the view.

The Bathroom

The bathroom featured a combination bath/shower and the Isrotel goodies included shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, body lotion, soap and a shower cap. The hairdryer wasn’t very powerful, but otherwise no complaints here.

The Room

My room was spacious with a fantastic balcony offering sea views. As you can see it features a comfy double bed, a living area with sofa and table, plus a big desk with a flat screen TV. There is also a tea and coffee set, a fridge/minibar, and plenty of wardrobe space. I slept really well in this bed and overall I liked the decor.

The Pool

It was too cold to sit by the pool at 3 o’clock in the afternoon in March, but the outdoor pool certainly looked appealing!

The Dead Sea

I popped my bath robe on went to the beach to try floating in the Dead Sea. It’s such a strange experience! The water feels really greasy like a big ocean of lubricant, and since it has such a high salt content, you can float on your back with your hands and feet out of the water! When you get out of the Dead Sea, the salt really burns your skin, so make sure you wash it off straight away!

The Spa

In the hotel’s Esprit Spa I experienced my first ever mud wrap, which involves being covered in a thick layer of warm Dead Sea mud and then being wrapped up like a mummy. It was such a strange feeling being immobile lying under all that mud, but I came out with the softest, smoothest skin. It’s so supposed to be rich in minerals, and recommended for arthritic pain and relaxation.

My stay at the Isrotel Dead Sea was sponsored by the Israel Ministry of Tourism, however all thoughts and opinions are my own.
