A Quick Intro to Barbados

If you’re looking for a Caribbean Island that has beautiful beaches AND tons of stuff to do, then look no further than Barbados.

Barbados is the most easterly of the Caribbean islands and has a variety of different beaches to suit all tastes. The east coast experiences strong trade winds and waves coming in from the Atlantic, while the west coast has sheltered, more tranquil bays.

When it comes to things to do in Barbados, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Swim with turtles, taste rum at the Mount Gay Distillery, discover the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bridgetown, explore an underground cave system or visit the island’s oldest surviving plantation… the choice is yours.

I’d highly recommend renting a car so you can explore some of the island’s most beautiful beaches, including Crane Beach, Carlisle Bay, Bottom Bay, Bathsheba and Paynes Bay.

One of the best experiences on the island is the famous Oistins Fish Fry, which is a big Friday night street party, with music, dancing and casual restaurants serving delicious grilled fish.

You shouldn’t leave Barbados without sampling some of the island’s must-try dishes, including flying fish cutters (a fish sandwich with tomato, cheese and egg), cou-cou (cornmeal and okra, topped with Flying Fish) and bread pudding.
