17 Apr 10 reasons to get off your behind and onto the road
We’re all guilty of it – thinking that it would be nice to see the world, but then becoming bogged down with day-to-day life and putting it to the back of our minds. It’s human nature. However, if you really yearn to visit new places, meet new people and experience magnificent things, then now is the time to act. To motivate you, here are ten reasons why you should stop putting it off!
1 – It’s now or never
If you don’t set a date and actually do it, chances are that life will get in the way and before you know it, you will have commitments you can’t escape. Don’t be that person who looks back in years to come and regrets not doing it.
2 – It’s realistic
You might think it’s beyond your means but tickets aren’t as expensive as you think; there are great last minute deals and many popular destinations are so cheap when you arrive that your budget per day is tiny.
3 – Meet new people
Perhaps your friends are all getting to the stage in their lives when they are settling down, having kids and getting married? Get away, meet new people, see new things – you’ll return home with a fresh perspective, new friends and who knows – maybe even the love of your life!
4 – Be amazed
It sounds cheesy but we all need to see something awe-inspiring once in a while to remind us that the world is a marvellous place. Maybe your current place of residence is great, maybe it isn’t – either way, experiencing new cultures and countries will give you a whole new appreciation for your home, your job and your friends and family.
5 – Work out what you want
Realistically does anyone really want to work 9-5 for the rest of their lives? I know that I don’t. Perhaps you are stuck in a rut and a little time away will make you realise the things you are passionate about. Travelling could afford you the time you need to work out what you really want.
6 – Learn
Travelling is the best learning experience that there is. As well as seeing and experiencing wonderful things you will work out a lot about yourself, what matters to you, what interests you, what kind of people you want to meet. The list goes on…
7 – It’s easier than you think
Where you are headed, thousands have gone before you. Unless you really endeavour to get off the beaten track, you will find that the tourist trail is well and truly mapped out for you which means that it is easy to get from A to B and cheap!
8 – Experience the unknown
You might rationalise by telling yourself that you aren’t missing out on what you don’t know. You are! The sheer number of amazing things you will see and do is unfathomable as you sit at home on your sofa – get out there and experience it.
9 – Get out of a rut
Is your job getting you down? Are you stuck in a cycle of wake up – journey to work – work – gym – dinner – bed? Travelling is the perfect escape.
10 – It will be the best thing you ever do
Until you do it, you won’t understand this statement – so get out there and make it happen!
