In Florida I visited the Clearwater Marine Aquarium to see Winter, the dolphin from the movie “Dolphin Tale”, starring Harry Connick, Jr. and Morgan Freeman.
While I hadn’t actually seen the movie before, I soon learnt a lot about Winter’s story and the making of the movie. A wonderful volunteer named John gave us a guided tour of the facility and told us the story of how winter lost her tail. She became tangled in the rope of a crab trap and it cut off the blood flow to her flukes, so the flukes fell off. She now has a prosthetic tail and is the star of her own movie!
I got to see Winter the dolphin swimming around with her new tail, and I met some of the other rescued animals at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, including sea turtles and sting rays. I also learnt about all the great work the staff at the Aquarium do to Rescue, Rehabilitate, Release and Educate.
