5 Things to Do in Orlando Besides Theme Parks

I previously wrote about 5 fun theme parks in Orlando besides Disney World, but what if you want to step away from theme parks altogether?

With great deals on Flights to Orlando, there are plenty of reasons to visit “The City Beautiful” besides the usual theme parks and attractions. Think of Orlando and the first places that spring to mind are  Walt Disney World, SeaWorld and Universal Studios, but there here are 5 other things to do in Orlando…

1. The Titanic Experience

Titanic Experience Orlando

Located on International Drive near Universal Studios, Sea World and Walt Disney World, Titanic The Experience features artefacts from the Titanic, and full-size room recreations so you’ll feel like you’ve just stepped on board the ill-fated liner.

You can see recreations of Titanic’s Grand Staircase, the First Class Palor Suite, the Boiler Rooms, the Captain’s Bridge and the Promenade Deck. In addition, you can view more than 400 unique pieces of memorabilia and 100 artifacts recovered from the wreck site, including a a 3-ton section of the Ship’s hull, the Captain’s wheel and personal belongings from Titanic’s passengers and crew.

Titanic The Experience is open from 10am-8pm Monday to Sunday and an adult ticket costs $21.95

2. Indoor Skydive at iFLY Orlando

Skyventure Orlando

Thought skydiving only involved jumping out of a plane? Think again. iFLY by Skyventure is skydiving with a difference- a vertical wind tunnel that makes you feel like you’re flying, minus the fear factor of falling towards the ground!

You’ll be provided with all the flying gear and you don’t need any previous experience since you’ll be shown how to fly your body in a controlled manner by a professional instructor.

3. A Scenic Boat Ride in Winter Park

The Scenic Boat Tour takes you for an hour-long ride on the tranquil Winter Park Chain of Lakes, cruising past the opulent mansions of wealthy/famous people.  You’ll see a variety of flora and fauna, including palms, cypress trees, ferns and sub-tropical flowers, and you may even see an alligator chilling on a nearby bank.

Tours depart from the dock at the East end of Morse Boulevard on Lake Osceola, just 10 minutes from downtown Orlando. An adult ticket costs $12 and the tours depart on the hour between 10am and 4pm.

4. Take a walk around Lake Eola

Lake Eola, Orlando
If you’d just like to relax, take a walk around the edge of Lake Eola in Downtown Orlando for views of the city skyline. The fountain on the lake features in many Orlando postcards, and it’s worth walking around here in the evening when everything is lit up. In the park you can rent swan-shaped paddle boats or electric gondola boards, feed the swans and birds, watch a performance in the Walt Disney Amphitheater or simply take a lunchtime stroll and enjoy the scenery.

 5. Wonderworks Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show

Wonderworks Orlando

If you weren’t expecting it, you might be a little shocked to see a building completely upside down. This is Wonderworks, where everything is inverted! Hosted by Tony Brent, The Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show combines magic, impersonations and comedy to provide 90 minutes of non-stop entertainment. There’s plenty of audience participation and guests receive table service with cheese and pepperoni pizza, salad, popcorn and unlimited beer, wine, soda and dessert. There is a 6pm show nightly, with an 8pm show on Fridays and Saturdays. Adult tickets cost $24.99, whilst kids and seniors tickets cost $16.99
