Laptop Backpacks: I love my new Swissgear Backpack!

After years of carrying around a mediocre but not-so-brilliant Jeep backpack for my laptop, I decided to invest in a new one.

Why didn’t I like the old one? First of all, it was front-loading with only one main compartment, which isn’t a great idea. Front loading sounds great until you get to security and they tell you to take your laptop out of your backpack. The laptop sits in the laptop pocket at the back, so you have to take EVERYTHING out of the bag to get to your laptop. Then you have to deal with a lot of people rolling their eyes as you take half an hour to get everything back in again. Secondly, the fabric was a bit weak, which causes it to sag when it’s really full. Not only does that make it rather bulky for cabin baggage, but it also doesn’t feel that great on your back.

So I bought the Swissgear GA-7321-14F00 Mythos 15.4 Inch Laptop Backpack from a local factory outlet.

This is seriously the best laptop backpack for travel I have ever had. Why is it so awesome?

  • It’s made of really sturdy, durable fabric so it doesn’t sag on your back and keeps its shape.
  • It’s the right size for cabin baggage
  • It has a strong handle at the top for picking it up.
  • It holds my 15″ Macbook Pro and has a separate laptop pocket at the back so you can easily pull it out when you go through security at airports.
  • It has a nifty little padded ipod pocket in the top, with a hole for earphones out the side so you can thread them through and listen to your music whilst you have your backpack on. I also like to use this pocket to store my phone and loose change. It makes it really easy to get them out without having to go rummaging through the other pockets.
  • The main pocket holds my DSLR camera and other bits and pieces perfectly. It also has a little document pocket inside.
  • It has elasticated water bottle holders at the side.
  • The front pocket has a keyring, a pen holder and a camera/phone pocket. It also has a little zip pocket for things like your passport and any travel documents.
  • It has a really padded back and straps, so it’s really comfy on your back.
All in all I can’t think of anything bad about this backpack. I’m so happy with it and it has made my life so much easier when traveling through airports. Since I travel with my Macbook Pro an awful lot, I needed something that would keep it safe and secure, whilst allowing me to carry other electronics like my camera.

This is one of my favourite purchases of the year- which shows I’m a travel addict when I’m more excited about luggage than new clothes!
