Hostel Review: Cool Bananas, Town of 1770

Cool Bananas Hostel Town of 1770 Queensland

If you’re looking for accommodation in Town of 1770 Agnes Water, Cool Bananas Backpacker’s Lodge is definitely the best hostel to stay in.

Town of 1770- Agnes Water is located in Queensland, Australia, just north of Bundaberg. The town is quite small but rather spread out, with a sandy beach, a few shops and one pub. It’s the last place on the East Coast that you can surf too.

The hostel is located a short walk across the road from the beach and has a hippy beach-shack sort of vibe. There are outdoor seating areas with canopies and lanterns, plus there are hammocks outside the dorm rooms.

The reception area has a large common room where people chill-out and watch a movie, plus there are computers at the back, although you do have to pay for the Internet.

The dorms are located in a separate bright blue building and you walk through the outdoor communal area to get to them.

There is a shared block of toilets and showers which can get a little crowded at times but generally not a problem. I stayed in an 8-bedroom dorm which was clean and large but did get rather hot and sticky at night because there was a ceiling fan but no air conditioning. On one night the hammocks really did come in handy because I slept outside.

The communal kitchen was spotless and sometimes there was a hostel meal in the evening for $6 AUD. One of the nights I was staying there they had a guy come to entertain us with circus equipment like a diabolo, pogo stick, coloured scarves and juggling balls. The hostel has a very laid-back style and it was really easy to meet other people, have a few beers and make friends. I loved this hostel, it was definitely cool bananas.
