Every time I go to a new hostel I’m constantly surprised. Just when I think I’ve seen the nicest hostel of my life, another one wows me even more. The Lisbon Lounge is my new favourite in this boutique hostel trend.

It’s not got a huge party atmosphere or anything, but after 6 months in Lagos, the party capital of Portugal, I was looking for a more relaxing, pampered break in Lisbon.
Step in Lisbon Lounge, recommended to me by a few friends that had managed to escape the abyss of Lagos and make it up to the beautiful capital of Lisbon. Check it out, the pictures really speak for themselves. Located centrally just off Rua Augusta, I found it pretty easy to get to from the airport, I just got on the Aerobus and stopped at Rossio Square before making the short walk to the hostel.
The entire hostel is brand new and luxurious, a bit like an ikea show room. It has a small number of rooms so it retains that friendly community vibe. The hostel has WiFi throughout, which was a bonus for me, as well as a beautiful new kitchen where there is a ‘family meal’ every night. For 8 euros you get a home cooked meal and the night I stayed there it was soup, traditional Portugese codfish with salad, followed by ice cream. In the morning there’s a free breakfast and unlike some of the measly breakfasts I’ve had in other hostels, this had every kind of juice…pineapple, apple, orange, berries…plus cheeses, cereal, bread rolls and jams.

The rooms are enormous and the bunk-beds bigger than average with thick matresses and amazing pillows ensuring you’ll have the best sleep of your travelling life. Bathrooms are equally nice and there’s a room with computer facilities. The main common area has bean bags, books and a computer and in the evening everyone gathers in there for a drink or two. In keeping with the boutique hostel theme, mojitos and caipirinhas were being served at 3 euros a pop. The photos really speak for themselves!
