Sea Sentosa- Designer Living in Canggu, Bali

If you’ve ventured down to Echo Beach in Canggu lately you may have noticed some building work going on  on a large are of land near the beachfront. This is the beginnings of Bali’s next generation apartment resort, Sea Sentosa, which is set to open in 2012.

Following the success of the Sentosa Villas and Spa in Petitenget, property developer Saxon Looker is branching out to Canggu, with a 2.8 hectare beachfront development overlooking four of Bali’s most famous surf breaks on the coastline between Batu Bolong and Batu Mejan. 

Canggu doesn’t have much of an option at the moment for shopping and night time entertainment- Canggu dwellers  like myself have to face the 20 minute trip in traffic to get to Seminyak if they want  to  do grocery shopping, go out for a drink or run errands.  However  that will change with the arrival of Sea Sentosa’s retail piazza, swimming lagoon and two beachfront restaurants with pools. The retail piazza will include a medical and holistic clinic, pharmacy, gym, spa, newsagent, supermarket, post office, and fashion and grocery outlets.

The beautiful area of Canggu, with its dark sands, amazing surf beach and green rice fields, is certainly an up-and-coming area these days and is undoubtedly going to expand and develop. With tourism spilling out of Kuta and Seminyak, Canggu is becoming a popular place for villa-renters and property development is inevitable, so it’s good to see that Saxon Looker are going to do it right and employ eco-friendly practices.

The community who live and surf in Canggu are very protective of the area and the environment around it and may be  concerned about property development here, but Sea Sentosa is being built with an environmentally aware design focus and a conscious effort to minimize the impact on the community.
